Sharing probiotics...

Met a lovely couple at the conference last week and they are both Doctors. The lady was very interested in probiotics and gut health.

I offered to send her some of all the probiotics that I have... So, that's what I did yesterday, with instructions.

So fun to share ;)

My babies...

Oh how I've missed you...

I've had some milk kefir grains but I believe they're contaminated with Matsoni (Viili). Looks and tastes a lot like what I had when mine did that. Matsoni cross contaminates really easily.

I was therefore happy to see these babies in the mail! Thanks Mum!!!

They've had a milk bath and 24 hours in milk. Now they're in their second lot of milk...

So happy to have them again :) :) They're originally from Dom... He has excellent grains :)

8 egg cake...

I know, I know... The receipe only called for six eggs but I couldn't help it... They were just soooo yellow!

Made this cake today for a friend and her three little darlings... Yes, today I had visitors! Don't have them often...

Was so lovely to give away some water kefir grains, eggs and sourdough starter... Love to share. Someone blessed me with them so now I bless others in return... Paying it forward :)

The cake has now been demolished... Yep, my boys came home from school!

Told my youngest that it was Failsafe and his next question was: 'So, you'll be making it often then???' With a huge grin, flapping those long eyelashes at me... Hehe... Was rather yummy.

A beautiful, if not windy day all round ;)

Bargain...

For our water kefir we have it this way... Half of the cup is filled with water kefir and we also add a good squeeze of 100% fruit juice...

We usually get it at Woolworths for $2/litre, which is at half prize... So imagine my delight when I found the same juice at 1/4 of the prize!!! $1/litre...

Yep, I bought four boxes full... That'll keep us going for a while me thinks ;)

Oops... May have a problem...

I was changing the milk kefir grains into fresh milk this morning...

Happen to notice the consistency was not its usual self... I soooooo hope my Matsoni culture has not cross contaminated somehow...  Not that I have a clue how as everything is kept separate...

Will see in a couple of days...

Just too much...

The freezer is overflowing and I need the room...

I've defrosted about 10 cups of water kefir grains and the chooks will feast on them today :)

Hate to see waste... This way the grains will be of great benefit to my egg layers :)

What a massive Water Kefir grain...

Just one of the many that I get this size these days... Just amazing, compared to the size I originally started out with.

Am giving some to a friend this week too as I just have too much and love to share :)

Giving it a try...

We keep running out of water kefir... So seeing that my new container enables me to make so many more grains, I thought I'd give it a shot and prepare two lots!

Tonight, again after only two days of growing, I ended up with over two cups of grains!!!

So now I have two lots brewing :) Can't wait to see the results on Sunday night! Need to find some people to give away grains to...

What the??? Kefir explosion...

The glass jar that I had been using for my water kefir, mysteriously got a crack in the base, meaning I could no longer use it...

I put it in the recycling bin and went through my drawers to find another adequate container as a replacement...

I ended up with a Tupperware dish that had a larger base than the glass jar. All the liquid fits in nicely and plenty of room for burping :)

I put in all ingredients as per normal... Late this afternoon, I went to check on the grains, to see if they needed another night. I had only stirred them once after 24 hours, which was last night...

The sight that greeted me was amazing! Not only had they more than doubled in size but also in quantity! The individual grains were so large and held together really well. They certainly didn't need another night's growing!

I am shocked... The only difference from previous batches and this last one is that the area of the base is larger... Think I'm keeping this container :)

PS The chooks loved the spare grains :)

Nearly ready...

Cranberries happily floating on top... Can't wait to try it :)

We bought some juices today that were on special... All different types to try out the different flavours. Would end up sooo much dearer if we were to go with a juicer and do it ourselves. After looking into it, it's really not worth it. So we buy failsafe juices when on special instead...

Cheers

Growing... Day by day...

Water and Milk Kefir... Side by side...

They are becoming great mates :) hehe

Wow, growth explosion...

So, after the second lot of fermenting, we now have 1 1/2 cup of Water Kefir Grains... Amazing! It doubled in size in one go!

Each batch you use 1 cup of grains only with 6 cups of water, etc... The extra we have placed in a bottle, dated and put in the freezer as a back up. Always good to have :)

With our first lot of juice, hubby added pineapple and pear juice to the 1 litre we had left. We, as a family are not used to having anything with effervescent in it. You could still taste it in the aftertaste but it was a total hit. It all got drunk very quickly! The second lot of water kefir, we halved the outcome and added organic sultanas as sweetener to one and cranberries to the other. Hope that works because it would be too expensive to keep using all that canned pineapple and pears... Must check out juicers...

It's a huge change for a family that only has filtered rain water or milk... ;)

We are getting there... Now, looking forward to my Matsoni culture and then we make yoghurt on the bench top as well. Yeah, baby!

Water Kefir...

Well, it's been two days and the babies have eaten all the sugar. We started with just under 1/2 cup of grains and ended up with 3/4 cup! They grew so much and that was straight after being shipped!

We got two bottles of juice. One is in the fridge to use. The other we are leaving out for a day so it produces more fizz and then it'll go in the fridge. Looking forward to seeing the difference...

It's awesome doing this with hubby too as it has ended up being like our little ongoing project :) Plus he's allot more into following receipes to the letter and measurements than me hehe

Cheers

My babies have arrived...

Water Kefir Grains that is...

We got some Milk Kefir Grains too but I'm really excited about the water ones as the last didn't work out for me...

Got them in the mail today. They were shipped brilliantly and handled their trip from down south really well :) Got just under 1/2 cup.

Now to wait a couple of days to see the result. So glad for great instructions. Can't wait for them to multiply so I can share the grains with friends :) :)

Grow my babies... Grow!!!

Cheers
