New building...

Our new building :)

Maryvale State School has scored a brand new building... Was great to watch it arrive on two trucks and then see how they put it together. :) Now to get furniture inside and get it used by the kids. lol

Square foot gardening...

Here are the sides all painted with decking oil so that they will survive better in the weather... Now we just have to put them together and fill them. :) Hope that happens this weekend. :)

Verandah Roof is on :)

Getting there...

We have come far... The verandah is on and the roof is attached. Now all that is left is the window frames, the door and the main roof :)

Cubby update...

Three sides done :)

Frame for the verandah...

This morning we got up really early and got going on the cubby again. We have finished three sides now and have also done the frame for the verandah. The palings for that have gone on too... Looking good :) :) I must say that Joshua has been an absolute huge help with all the work. We really needed his hands to help :)

This arvo we will do the front of the cubby... Russell is out mowing with the tractor at the moment as our grass has taken off with the recent rain that we have had... :)

Woohoo, the new ladder :)

I had asked Russell a couple of weeks ago for a new ladder for the chookhouse... The old perches in there had deteriorated and now they were having problems getting up to the top of the chookhouse to perch. So had to get that sorted...

This morning, Russell came up with a great solution from a long bit of wood that he had in the shed already :) They now have a way to get up as well as somewhere to perch at night if they wish to. :) It is nice and wide too :)

As soon as he had finished screwing it to the shelf there were about four of the hens in there checking it out... And it is not putting them off going in there and laying either... have collected five since the ladder has gone in. Normally even the change in wood shavings gets them talking... All good this time :)

New 'Driveway'

Earlier this year there was some cutting down of Pepperina trees at the school. I happen to be at the pub for a very, very rare drink and the people that were taking the wood chips away. They asked if I knew anyone that would want the truck load of wood chips or they would be forced to pay to dump it at the local dump...

Well off course I took them to my place :) They dumped the truckload as the school didn't want it. All the better for me. :) We have let it sit and rot, let the chooks comb through it for many months now so decided to use the bark not just for our gardens and pots but also to make a bit of a driveway so that we could park our cars up closer to the house. This way even when it has rained we won't get stuck in the black soil which is so muddy. Very happy with the end result. Dry and clean under foot and still have half a pile to go.

The best thing of all though was that we did it as a family. We got Timothy off the computer and out into the cold windy day, which he didn't really appreciate but we really wanted to do it together... Joshua, as usual, put his whole into it and did a fantastic job helping... It was a great achievement in the end even though it didn't take very long at all...

Update on The Cubby...

The base is completely done. :)

Back frame and most of front frame done. Window assembly checked out...

This last weekend Russell and I spent chunks of it in the shed. Saturday and Sunday as well... Here is the end results so far. :)
