Wow, growth explosion...

So, after the second lot of fermenting, we now have 1 1/2 cup of Water Kefir Grains... Amazing! It doubled in size in one go!

Each batch you use 1 cup of grains only with 6 cups of water, etc... The extra we have placed in a bottle, dated and put in the freezer as a back up. Always good to have :)

With our first lot of juice, hubby added pineapple and pear juice to the 1 litre we had left. We, as a family are not used to having anything with effervescent in it. You could still taste it in the aftertaste but it was a total hit. It all got drunk very quickly! The second lot of water kefir, we halved the outcome and added organic sultanas as sweetener to one and cranberries to the other. Hope that works because it would be too expensive to keep using all that canned pineapple and pears... Must check out juicers...

It's a huge change for a family that only has filtered rain water or milk... ;)

We are getting there... Now, looking forward to my Matsoni culture and then we make yoghurt on the bench top as well. Yeah, baby!

Cheers

Hi Barb

How about you try what we are doing and see if it works better...

6.5 cups of rain water, not filtered, 1 teaspoon molasses, 1/4 teaspoon bio carb, 3-4 pieces of sterilized egg shells, 1/2 cup raw sugar. Mix really well. Add 1 cup of your Water Kefir Grains and a slice of lemon. I use a 4 Litre square jar that is glass with a lid on it and close that.

Put that in a corner with no sun. After 24 hours I still gently and then after that whenever I think of it. Leave for 2-3 days. Leave no more than 4 days though.

I separate the grains and egg shell and lemon then and put the liquid into a container that I store in the fridge for 48 hours and then consume. I don't do the second fermentation with fruit as found that the impact of the fruit I was putting in there was not enough for my family. Instead I just add juice when serving. Works really well for us.

See how you go with that and let me know?

Mine have not changed... I am freezing excess but don't know what for... There is just too much. Good luck :)

Cheers Dalinz
