Not letting up...

Went down to the creek this morning and took these pictures... We've had heaps more rain since and as you can imagine the bridge will be under water now...

I ended up ringing my wonderful boss to say I just couldn't come into work and she totally understood... It's just too dangerous. Too many places where I could get stuck in the water... And there's allot more coming from reports...

Cheers

Our babies...

Nova and Bailey enjoying a snooze :)

Lovin' the rain...

Have had some wild weather here for the past couple of days...

Further up north, Cyclone Oswald has reeked havoc...

We are getting the wind and rain. Our tanks can't take anymore and driving to and from work is hard. At the end of my hour-and-a-bit journey, I'm usually exhausted and my knuckles are white.

The creek down near the school was nearly up to the bridge yesterday afternoon. No way i cam get out the other two ways already. Hope I can get out in a couple of hours or I can't do my 24hr shift this afternoon...

My eldest has been having a ball in the rain though :) He's been putting out all the buckets we have so that he can catch all the water... The wheelbarrow also got a workout :)

Water Kefir...

Been doing more research to do this one as simple as possible...

YouTube is a great source of info. Many use metal sieves and spoons and that is actually not good for the grains at all...

Anyway, after mucking around for a few days, tonight's separated drink tasted the best yet. I have put most of the Kefir Water into a glass jar and put a plastic lid on tight. Will leave it till tomorrow and serve with dinner. That was more carbon will be produced and it will taste more like a soda :) Wonder what the three of them will say. Tonight's tasted really good. I must say I was a little surprised...

From watching online, I realised I was doing it all correctly. Only thing is my grains are nowhere near the size of what they were showing...

Just hope they aren't dying on me... Fruit and sugar is still being absorbed though so maybe they are still waking up from the freezer sleep??? Time will tell but am super impressed for now :) Really didn't think it'd be this simple :)

Milk Kefir...

I got my kit last Friday as well as the 2 live grains from Gavin. Gavin's grains are 20 years old so feel privileged to have been given some :) That's all that I have needed to make myself a full glass of kefir drink each night :)

The dehydrated grains that came with the kit are reconstituting very well. With the warm weather at the moment I don't even have to leave it in 48hrs... 24hrs seems plenty!

I got the boys to try some tonight and they want to try it again but not natural. They want flavour. Will try strawberries and mango to start with, I think. Will see how that goes for them...

I'm loving it as each smell and taste takes me back to my childhood in Austria :)

Molly babies are growing...

They are going well so far. We have them in a separate container in with the main tank...

Looks like the other Molly female will have more babies too soon... The male is chasing her like there's no tomorrow ;)

At this rate it won't be long before they are big enough to go in the main tank :)

Cheers

Hehe... Hot Dog...

She's hot stuff :) My youngest thought he'd have a Hot Dog for lunch the other day... Told him we didn't have the buns...

Hehe in he comes with Nova all packaged up :) Adorable...

Water Kefir...

Grew up with the Milk Kefir... Have had them here before too. Was great to use raw milk with the grains :)

My step mum gave me a heap of frozen Water Kefir Grains a few months ago. I thawed them last Friday...

Half the grains I'm using... The other half are part of an exchange for some Milk Kefir Grains that I'm picking up tomorrow from my local Health food shop. Can't wait...

My step mum got her grains from my sister in law, so I spent tonight on the phone to both of them wanting more info... There is actually not allot of direct information out there on the net. Allot of the receipes you just make up yourself...

Getting some ingredients tomorrow when I do my shopping and will see how I go :)

Can't wait for them to be fully 'awake' and start multiplying :)

Cheers

PS: I realised after taking this photo that no metal should ever touch the grains... Hope I didn't hurt them...

Growing Amy...

She is growing at the speed of light. Nah, not really...

She has learnt to boss around Isis though, which is a change... Wonder how long it'll last.

The girls are coming with me to work this Saturday, as I am doing a 24hr shift.

Can't wait to share Amy with them all :)

Cheers

Cutie...

With all this hot weather we have been having, we have resorted to two large ice cream containers as the dogs water bowls...

Even in all this heat Nova still wags her cute tail... Such a treasure :)

Kai, on a country holiday...

We've had him visiting since 31.12.12. My eldest has loved having him here. Kai only ends up in his cage at night for sleep time. Love his talking and tweeting :)

Bud got a bit jealous but got over it quickly :)

I know my dear friend Margaret really wants Kai back and she'll get him back Sunday morning... I also know my eldest will miss him terribly.

Hope he comes for a holiday again soon :)

Cheers

Introducing Amy...

She's our latest addition to our menagerie...

She's still little but not too little to be with Isis. :) They have settled quicker and better than I thought they would as Isis is a bit bossy...

Today, we observed Amy climbing over Isis to get to food that hubby had put out for them hehe

Yep, she's going to hold her own well :)

Cheers

My mum and step dad, off course put on a feast :) 'Just being drinks' was said... We left rolling out of their place hehe

Great time was had by all :)

New Year, new challenges, new dreams...

I love the beginning of a new year... To me, it's about leaving the old behind and starting afresh... And that is certainly the case this new year...

Last year, I was bogged down with allot of pain from old injuries... There was allot I couldn't do... Hubby and the two lads did an excellent job stepping up to the plate...

But more and more each day, I'm coming back... And I love it.

Things will be very different this year at work especially... I like change, to an extent... Will see what happens... I am looking forward to the challenges :) I am so up for more learning. Also, still determined to convert my Cert III to a Cert IV :)

Tomorrow, I'm getting on the tractor to mow some paddocks! Have not been able to do that in a year... And I can't wait :)

I just finished a night and nearly all day shift and my hand didn't give me grief once... Sooooo happy :)

Cheers
